A repeating cycle in a bedroom is arguably worse than no timer, because the warmer switches itself on in a room nobody is in. Match the behavior to the room.
Why a timer is worth paying for here specifically
Two reasons, and only one of them is about safety.
The safety one is straightforward. The most common anxious question in this whole category is whether a warmer can be left on overnight. A published shut-off converts that from a thing you have to remember into a thing the hardware handles. The NFPA advises against candles in bedrooms and anywhere people may fall asleep; an electric warmer removes the flame from that scenario, and a timer removes the rest of it.
The one people underrate is waste. Wax stops giving off meaningful fragrance long before it stops being liquid - that is the mechanism behind the extremely common complaint that you cannot smell your own melts any more. A warmer running for eight hours on wax that gave up after four is heating spent wax, and it is also why a timer set to a sensible duration makes a pack last longer. The alternative nobody suggests
A plug-in mechanical or digital outlet timer, on any warmer at all.
This is worth saying because it changes the shopping problem. If you already own a warmer you like, or you want a 10 W plate warmer for running cost and none of them publish a timer, an outlet timer between the warmer and the wall gives you the same auto shut-off for a few dollars. It also gives you the repeating cycle, and unlike a built-in timer it survives the warmer.
We are not recommending a specific one because it is a general household product rather than something this site indexes. But if the only reason you were about to buy a particular lamp was its timer, this is the thing to weigh first.
One we do not recommend
Buying on a timer claim with no published duration. The Briever sits at the bottom of this list for exactly that reason, and there are cheaper listings that do the same thing.
If the timer is the feature you are paying for, and the listing will not say how long it runs or what it does at the end, you are paying for a word. Either buy a model that publishes the behavior or buy any warmer plus an outlet timer, which publishes its behavior on the box.

What is the difference between an auto shut-off and a cycle timer?
An auto shut-off is one-shot: it runs for the duration you set, then turns off and stays off. A cycle timer repeats the same pattern every 24 hours, switching the warmer back on by itself. For a bedroom you want the first. For an entry or hallway you want scented before you get home, the second is the more useful feature.
Can I add a timer to a wax warmer that does not have one?
Yes. A plug-in mechanical or digital outlet timer between the warmer and the wall gives any corded warmer an auto shut-off and a repeating cycle, usually for a few dollars, and it carries over to your next warmer. If a built-in timer was the only reason you were choosing a particular model, this is worth weighing first.
How long should I run a wax warmer for?
Long enough for the wax to still be throwing scent, which is usually less time than people run one. Wax stops giving off much fragrance well before it stops being melted, so a warmer running for eight hours on wax that gave up after four is heating spent wax. Do all candle warmer lamps have timers?
